Research Study:
Factors in Custom Software Purchase Decisions of $50,000 or More
Objective
To document how businesses are making decisions about custom software, including: sources of authority, key criteria, alternatives considered, evaluation process, expected business value, and critical constraints. This information can help create better alignment between vendors of custom software services and those who seek software services.
Methodology
Format - The study will gather data via remote 1-on-1 interviews. These interviews will involve open-ended discussion about the participant’s software purchase and the research that lead to that decision. Co-worker names and other personal information will not be requested.
Compensation - Participants will receive a $100 gift card to their choice of Amazon, Target, or Walmart. This electronic gift card will be delivered via email immediately following the interview.
Response Data Usage - Participant responses will be consolidated across multiple interviews in order to assess general trends and common themes. Participant answers may be paraphrased and catalogued, but will remain anonymous.
Personal Data Usage - Participants will be contacted via email before the interview to select a time, and after the interview for the purpose of compensation. Participant information will not be shared or sold.
Eligibility
An applicant cannot be considered eligible for this study unless ALL of the following conditions are met.
  • Employed in the United States - This includes startups that selected a software vendor to produce their app.
  • Recently was part of a decision to spend money on a custom app - This can be a web app or a mobile app.
  • The app cost $50,000 or more - This includes design as well as development.
